Step 3/6
Road lines & asphalt
Road markings are a quiet but powerful clue. Whether the centre line is yellow or white, the presence of edge lines, and the asphalt's colour eliminate broad regions. A yellow centre line is common in North America and a few regions, while white is standard across most of Europe. Combine it with soil and asphalt colour.
- Centre line: yellow or white?
- Edge lines present? Dashed or solid?
- Asphalt colour and texture back up the region
- Road width and shoulder type add detail
Quick check
A yellow centre line is most common in which region?
