GeoGuessr glossary
The jargon you keep seeing in guides and chat, in plain language. Skim it once, then come back when a term trips you up.
- Bollard
- A short roadside marker post. Shape, colour and reflectors are country-specific, so bollards are a prized pinpointing clue.

- Camera generation
- The age of the Street View camera (Gen 2, 3, 4). Image quality and car blur hint at region and era.
- Chevron
- An arrow-shaped sign marking a sharp bend. Its style and colours vary by country.
- Learn more →
- Coverage
- Where Street View imagery actually exists. Many countries have none, which itself narrows a guess.
- Driving side
- Which side of the road traffic uses. One of the fastest tells — it splits the world roughly into left- and right-driving halves.
- Learn more →
- Follow car / Google car
- The vehicle carrying the Street View camera. Its colour, roof rig, antenna or snorkel can give away the country.
- Learn more →
- Meta
- A small, reliable detail tied to one place — a specific bollard, plate or pole — that experienced players memorise to pin a location.
- Learn more →
- Moving
- The default mode where you can drive along the road, look around and zoom freely.
- NMPZ
- No Move, Pan, Zoom — a mode where you can't move, rotate or zoom. You read only what's straight ahead.
- No Move (NM)
- You can pan and zoom but not drive from the spawn point.
- Pinpoint
- To nail an exact spot rather than just the right country — usually by stacking several metas.
- Plonk
- To place your guess on the map. A "plonk" is a single guess; a great one is a "nice plonk".
- Spawn
- The starting location you're dropped at when a round begins.
- Trekker
- Backpack-mounted Street View footage off-road — trails, parks, stairs — where no car can drive.
